Participation of Roman Legion

Members of LEGIO XX will appear and participate in Festa Italiana 2008. They will be dressed in authentic reproductions of uniforms, armor and accoutrements.

LEGIO XX is one of the leading Roman Reenacting Units in the US, and well-respected globally for their contributions to establishing Roman Reenacting as a world-wide hobby. Founded in 1991 and based in the Washington-DC Metro area, Legion XX strives to recreate the soldiers of the Roman Army for public demonstrations and living history displays, in addition to civilian recreations of daily-life in Ancient Rome. As part of its educational program, Legion XX works closely with schools and academics and is host to the oldest annual Roman reenacting event in the U.S., Roman Days.

Entertainment

Festa Italiana is always searching for entertainers that will provide our supporters with quality and tradition in mind. Over the past ten years, we have brought you local bands and singers such as OMNI 1, the Monaldi Brothers, tenor Antonio Giuliano and others. We have also searched as far away as New Orleans (the Daniele Spadavecchia Italian jazz trio) and New York (comedian Floyd Vivino; the Sgro Brothers harmonica duo).

Our tenth anniversary will provide you with the following acts that you won’t want to miss:

“Don” Felice comes to us from New York by way of Campobasso (Molise) and is being accompanied by Mark Shamrakov . They have performed together for 8 years at venues such as the Tropicana (Atlantic City), Foxwoods , and the Mohegan Sun Casinos (Connecticut). Felice has performed for over 20 years throughout the United States as well with the likes of Mauro Nardi, Mario Merola, Carmelo Zappulla, Tony Astarita, Mauro Caputo, and Angelo Mauro.

“Gianni” resides in Connecticut with his wife (they are expecting their first child later this year….auguri!) He is originally from Caserta but has been in the United States since 2001. Gianni is a two-time world champion organetto player and has performed extensively throughout Italy and Europe and more recently at many functions with Don Felice.

The Flying V's are a sensational family circus act making their grand debut at Festa Italiana. Ringmaster Mike LaMarra and his beautiful five multi talented daughters teach all your big top favorites like riding unicycles, balancing on rolling globes, juggling, contortion and much more. The Flying V's have successfully performed at the White House, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Kings Dominion, Wolftrap, the Special Olympics and most recently the 2008 Washington D.C. Chinese New Year's parade. To learn more, visit www.circusclub.org
